Dubai Press Club Launches Digital Initiative ‘Agenda’

·       To Host Series ofVirtual Sessions and Workshops
·       First Initiative Featuring LeadingArab Media persons to be Held on Monday 06 August on DPC’s page on Google+

Dubai-UAE:05August, 2012 -Dubai Press Club (DPC) today announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind digitalinitiative, the ‘Agenda’, which will host a series of virtual seminars,meetings, workshops and talk shows using the latest digital social networkingapplications.
 
Thefirst session of the Agenda will be held on Monday 6August at 11.00pm UAE time on DPC’s page on Google +. Netizens can participatein the session using Google Hangouts, a chat application that will allow themto watch andinteract with the proceedings of theevent from anywhere using computers and smart phones. The session will also bebroadcast on DPC’s channel on YouTube. The discussions on Twitter (#agenda)will be integrated to DPC’s page on Google+, which connects many websites atthe same time.

Moderatedby Maryam Bin Fahad, Executive Director, Dubai Press Club, the segment willfeature Ayman Al Sayyad, editor of Weghat Nazar magazine (Egypt), Ahmad Ashour,Director of Al Jazeera Talk (Qatar), Mohammed Al Nughaimish, Writer (Kuwait),Diana Moukalled, Writer, Al Sharq Al Awsat Newspaper (Lebanon), Faisal Abbas,editor-in-chief of Alarabiya.net / English version (UAE), Dr Abeer Al Najjar,dean of Jordan Media Institute (Jordan), and Ahmed Shalabi, Co-founder ofQabila TV (Egypt).

Maryam bin Fahad said: "Agenda comes as part of our efforts to mark a presenceand interact with our stakeholders across various parts of the Arab region andthe world through social networking. Towards this end, we have invested inelectronic assets including digital platforms on the internet.

“Further more,Agenda will serve as a foundational step to establishing a more defined andcomprehensive digital initiative that will benefit Arab media professionals andstudents over the next few months. The project will offer training andspecialized media education, besides providing information and services.”

Inaddition to discussing the role of media in promoting the use of socialnetworks, the session aims to highlight the ethical responsibilities of users.The event comes at a time when the digital platform is witnessing a rapidincrease in the number of users, comprising the youth as well as media andthought leaders from various walks of life. The phenomenal reach and power ofthe platform is also leading to the spread of practices that are inconsistentwith Arab and Islamic culture and traditions. DPC’s initiative of introducingthe Agenda aims to explore the new scenarios emerging out of the prolificgrowth of the digital platform.
